Kratom is a herbal supplement that’s only increasing in popularity. That is because of its reported benefits of being a natural way to relieve pain and boost energy.
Since more people are trying kratom out for the first time, we wanted to give you a dosing guide to assist you on your journey.
Of course, the proper dosage will vary from person to person, but the main factors to consider include:
- What effects do you want to experience?
- What strain are you using?
- What consumption method are you using (powders, capsules, etc.)?
- Your body chemistry
- Your level of tolerance
You’ll have to experiment to find the proper dosage, but our guide will give you a good starting point.
Best Kratom Dose for Pain Management
Kratom is useful for managing pain at all dosages, but the strongest pain relief comes from higher doses. It also helps to look for strains that are highest in the alkaloids mitragynine and 7-Hydroxymitragynine, which bind to the kappa, delta, and mu-opioid receptors to suppress pain sensitivity throughout the body.
Common dosages for varying levels of pain:
For mild pain — 2–4 grams
For moderate pain — 3–5 grams
Severe pain — 5 grams or more
It is always best to begin with a lower dose at first. Increase gradually until you get the relief you’re looking for. There’s no point taking more than you need. The higher dose you take, the more chances there are of side effects.
Best Kratom Dose For Energy & Focus
Kratom is great for boosting energy and sharpening focus. The ideal dose for the focus-enhancing benefits is usually much lower than the doses used for pain or sleep.
Most people find a small 2–4 gram dose is more than enough to provide nootropic benefits. Some people even use microdoses consisting of just 1 gram of raw powder for enhancing focus, creativity, mental endurance, and acuity.
Taking too much kratom can have the opposite effect and end up making it even harder to remain focused. So. start with a low dose, and increase gradually once you get a feel for how your body reacts.
Best Kratom Dose For Opiate Withdrawal
Stronger doses of kratom are useful for weaning people off opiate drugs. Many of the plant’s alkaloids bind to the same opiate receptors and can be used to help eliminate the uncomfortable symptoms of withdrawal.
The dose used for warding off opiate withdrawal will be dependent on the individual. Most people who are using kratom for this application will need a higher dose —typically around 5 grams or more — to offset withdrawal symptoms.
Once again, it’s best to start with a lower dose of kratom and gradually increase the dose.
You may want to start with 2 grams and wait about 45 minutes to see how you feel. If you are still feeling withdrawal symptoms, you may want to take another 2 grams. This is repeated until you find the dose that works for you. Don’t exceed 8 grams of raw powder unless under medical guidance and supervision.
